Taking on a more efficient approach instead of combining traditional digital multimeters, clamp meters and irradiance meters to measure the I-V (current versus voltage) curve of a photovoltaic (PV) string or module using a capacitive load, the PVA-1500 combines all those metering options into one cutting-edge solution that more reliably assesses the health and performance of PV solar modules, strings and arrays. The PVA-1500 enables the accurate measurement and verification of an I-V curve so technicians can immediately evaluate the solar panels' health, detect any degradation in power, or identify issues such as shading, damage or faulty components.
The PVA-1500 PV analyzer I-V curve trace kit, available from Mouser Electronics, can deliver quick and detailed performance data checking via its intuitive user interface by accurately measuring and displaying high throughput I-V curve tracing up to 1500V and 30A at the string level by connecting directly to the string or at a combiner box. The I-V curve trace points can be selected at 100 or 500. The PVA-1500 then generates the P-V (power versus voltage) curve, Isc, Voc, Imp, Vmp, Pmax, fill factor and performance factor to enable an immediate analysis of curve datasets to detect outliers and use the stored data as a baseline for future performance evaluations. To address some testing challenges with high-efficiency PV modules with higher capacitance (>19% module efficiency), Fluke offers the PVA-1500HE2, also available for purchase on the Mouser website. This kit option measures all string types up to 30 amps, operates with an exceptional swift sweep-to-sweep delay of 9 seconds (at Voc<1350V), and is designed to measure 3.5 MW within an hour and withstand the inrush current of higher temperature environments all day without overheating.
The PVA-1500 can communicate wirelessly with a PC via Wi-Fi with a line-of-sight wireless range of 100m, offering faster setup and mobility with the flexibility to measure multiple combiner boxes on a single SolSensor setup. The PVA-1500 kits are "in-the-field firmware update-ready" and offer a database of over 70,000 modules with automatic updates. In addition, the kits are supported by a free downloadable Data Analysis Tool (DAT) that validates the captured data results in the field and streamlines the PVA I-V curve data analysis into multiple formats.
