XBee Adapter Shields

SparkFun XBee Adapter Shields help connect the XBee module to the computer and access the serial and programming pins of the DIGI XBee line. These boards also include the XBee shield, which provides an easy way to add wireless capability to Arduino projects. The XBee Explorer dongle can be plugged directly into the USB port, and the device acts as a gateway between the computer and the XBee. The XBee Explorer USB and the XBee Explorer serial provide direct access to the serial and programming pins on the XBee unit. The XBee Explorer USB is a USB-to-Serial base unit, while the XBee Explorer serial is an RS232-to-Serial base unit for the XBee.

XBee Explorer USB

SparkFun XBee Explorer USB is designed as a USB-to-Serial base unit for the Digi XBee line. This unit works with all XBee modules that include Series 1 and Series 2.5, standard and pro versions. The XBee unit is plugged into the XBee Explorer, and a mini USB cable is attached for direct access to the serial and programming pins of the XBee. This Explorer USB board uses an FT231X USB-to-Serial converter that translates data between the computer and the XBee. The XBee Explorer USB offers a reset button, a voltage regulator for the power supply, and four LEDs (RX, TX, RSSI, and power indicator) to help debug the XBee. This board breaks out each of the XBee’s I/O pins to a pair of breadboard-compatible headers.
